One of the largest and regarded as one of the finest college showcases, the GSI College Showcase has recently been rebranded as “Showcase KC” – presented by Sporting Kansas City and GSI Sports. As part of a renewed long-term partnership between GSI Sports and the Sporting Club Network presented by Price Chopper, the first edition of the new and improved event is set to take place Nov. 17-19, 2017.
The Showcase KC will be held at various world-class turf facilities in the Kansas City area, including the new Wyandotte County Youth Soccer Complex, and will welcome boys and girls competitive teams ages U-15 through U-19.
This annual invitational showcase is for soccer players who wish to play at the college level and will give players a chance to demonstrate their talents to college coaches from across the country. More than 600 collegiate coaches from Divisions I, II, III, NAIA, and NJCAA are invited to scout players. At last year’s sell-out event, over 230 college coaches attended the GSI College Showcase and over 34 state championship-winning youth teams participated.
GSI Sports and the Sporting Club Network will work together to create additional opportunities for teams, coaches, players and parents to learn more about the college recruitment process. Included in these ancillary events will be combines for players to gain additional exposure in front of college staff, coaching education opportunities for youth and collegiate coaches to learn from Sporting KC’s technical staff, and even college panels to educate parents and players on the ins and outs of college soccer recruiting.
“This was already a great event but the partnership with Sporting KC allows us to offer even more opportunities for the players, parents and coaches,” stated Huw Williams, GSI Sports Manager. “Both GSI and SKC are committed to making differences within our soccer community and this relationship will result in more college scholarships for our Midwest players.”
Vice President of Youth Soccer & Player Affairs Betsy Maxfield is excited for what this means to youth soccer in Kansas City.
“The Sporting Club Network is excited to strengthen its relationship with GSI Sports, one of the top tournament and college ID providers in the Midwest,” she said. “The announcement of Showcase KC is a big step forward as one of our goals is to provide more opportunities for aspiring college players to be identified by colleges and have the ability to take the next step in their playing careers.”
