GSI Sports presents a check to The University of Kansas Cancer Center raised at Gold Ribbon charity soccer tournament.

The GSI Sports Gold Ribbon Tournament Raised $5,700 for University of Kansas Cancer Center

A vibrant fall day was the setting at the Polo Fields for the Second Annual GSI Gold Ribbon tournament held October 22 – 24, 2016. Because of this charity soccer tournament, GSI Sports was able to present The University of Kansas Cancer Center with a check in the amount of $5,700 to benefit pediatric cancer research. Combined with the past year, GSI has raised over $11,000 for this world-class cancer center.

This year’s charity soccer event welcomed approximately 70 teams to the three day soccer tournament. When not competing in soccer games, players and spectators could attempt to score a goal through the yellow ribbon target for the chance to win a prize. Those who were successful were entered into a drawing for a Pinstripes gift basket, Paradise Park gift basket and a Somerset Ridge Vineyard and Winery gift basket.

In addition, one lucky family received the “Surprise Fan Delivery of the Game”, a certificate from iFLY Kansas City for an iFLY flight for five. There was also a selfie station, tattoos and face painting. Event sponsors Dunkin Donuts and Highland Dairy provided complimentary donuts and chocolate milk respectively.

With the teams’ support of the GSI Gold Ribbon tournament, these young soccer athletes show the soccer community that every player can help children suffering with cancer ‘One Goal at a Time’. The funds raised from this event are donated to The University of Kansas Cancer Center to support acceleration of new drug development and delivery to pediatric patients and to create infrastructure to support pilot project specific to pediatric drug product development and distribution to name a few.

GSI Sports is proud to support The University of Kansas Hospital and The University of Kansas Cancer Center. These ground breaking medical facilities provide the most effective and compassionate cancer care available to children, adolescents and young adults with blood conditions or cancer.  The University of Kansas Hospital is a leader in their field and have the expertise in treating all types of childhood cancers.

“We know that getting a team to a tournament takes a lot of effort and sacrifice so we especially appreciate the commitment of coaches and managers to get their teams involved with this great event,” said Huw Savage, GSI Sports Tournament Director.  “GSI Sports has been able to raise a lot of money for a great cause and we look forward to ‘kickin’ cancer’ again next fall.”

You can participate in the 2017 GSI Gold Ribbon tournament set for October 27-29 at the Polo Grounds, Kansas City, Mo. Entry deadline is October 2, 2017.
