Soccer Spotlight: Nicole Barnhart Goalkeeping Camp Makes Home in New SportsPlex

The excitement is building for GSI Sport’s brand new 25,000-square-foot indoor training facility, the SportsPlex. Located in Olathe, it will also be the home to Nicole Barnhart Goalkeeping.

Nicole Barnhart brings a myriad of accomplishments to this first-of-its-kind keeper training academy. Barnhart spent 10-plus years on the Women’s National Team and won two Olympic gold medals. In addition, she is a three-time professional Goalkeeper of the Year and is currently finishing her fifth season for FC Kansas City in the National Women’s Soccer League.

“I am very excited to partner with GSI and to have the opportunity to work with the next generation of goalkeepers in the Kansas City area,” stated Barnhart. “Having a facility like the new SportsPlex to run a Goalkeeping Academy is such an amazingly exciting notion. This facility will give me an indoor space to call home, where I will be able to run year-round training sessions open to all goalkeepers in the KC area, and will make it easier to increase the number of goalkeepers I am able to train.”

The Academy will consist of six-week clinics for goalkeepers of all levels. These one-hour weekly sessions will be a chance to train in a small group environment and fine tune specific goalkeeper skills.

According to Barnhart, with a strong foundation of basic fundamentals and a focus on properly developing the technical aspects of the position, any goalkeeper can grow his or her game with confidence.

“I eagerly want to share my wealth of knowledge and I have a passion for teaching the game,” she added.
